YP Champion of the Month: Tara Anderson

Tell us about yourself. Where do you work and how long has Lincoln been home?

I've lived in Lincoln for 16 years. I am originally from northern Minnesota, and my family moved to Kearney when I was in high school. I moved to Lincoln for school and, after moving away for a few years, I decided that I loved Lincoln so much that I wanted to come back for graduate school. I work for the Department of Environment and Energy in a program that provides low cost financing and grants to Nebraska communities for their drinking water and sewer systems.

How or why did you get involved with Lincoln YPG?

I got involved with YPG because I'm an introvert and made it my goal to meet new people and work on my networking skills. The variety of events held by YPG was a draw because it's helped me become more comfortable meeting new people in a variety of settings. I also really appreciate the policy work that YPG does. I think it's really important work to help make Lincoln an attractive place for young people to live and work.

Why do you love Lincoln? What keeps you here? Why did you move here?

I love Lincoln for so many reasons. I feel a sense of community on many levels, from the master plans to make the city cohesive and useable in as many ways as possible, down to the neighborhood associations that meet and focus on specific issues to improve. A few other reasons I appreciate living in Lincoln are: the amazing trails network and parks, the music and entertainment available, the public school system, the family friendly events, the libraries, and the access to locally grown food.
